How Much Can You Earn From Forex Trading in Nigeria?
There is no honest figure. What you keep depends on your skill, your costs and your discipline.

Nobody Can Tell You What You Will Earn, and Anyone Who Does Is Selling Something
The honest answer to how much you can earn from forex trading is that the figure is unknown until you trade and measure it. It is not a salary, a yield or a fixed return. It is the residue left after your wins, your losses and your costs, and it can be negative for a long time before it is positive, if it ever is.
Treat every promise of a monthly percentage as marketing. Screenshots of profits are easy to produce and impossible to verify. If someone offers to trade your money for a guaranteed return, that is a claim no market can support.
The people who appear in searches for the richest forex trader in the world or the richest forex trader in Nigeria are usually known for running funds, brokerages or education businesses, not for a single trading account. That distinction matters when you are deciding who to learn from.

We would rather show a gap than a number we cannot stand behind, so untraceable figures are simply not printed.
Your Result Is Decided by Costs, Position Size and How Long You Survive
Three things move your outcome more than any strategy. What you pay to enter and exit, how large each position is relative to your account, and how many consecutive losses you can absorb without changing your behaviour.
Costs are quoted by the broker, not by us. Before funding anything, open the broker's funding page and its fee schedule and read what a deposit, a withdrawal and a trade actually cost you. If the numbers are hard to find, that is information too.
Position size is the part most Nigerian beginners get wrong. A large position on a small account turns an ordinary losing streak into a closed account. The site's profit calculator exists so you can test scenarios yourself rather than copying someone else's numbers.
Session timing affects how much movement there is to trade. Sydney runs 22:00 to 07:00 WAT, Tokyo 01:00 to 10:00 WAT, London 09:00 to 18:00 WAT and New York 13:00 to 22:00 WAT. The London and New York overlap, 13:00 to 18:00 WAT, is when the two largest sessions are both open.
When the market is worth sitting down for (WAT)
- Busiest window
- 13:00-18:00 WAT — London and New York open together
- Thinnest stretch
- 22:00-07:00 WAT — Sydney alone, wider spreads
- European open
- 09:00-18:00 WAT
- US open
- 13:00-22:00 WAT
- Closed
- Friday New York close until the Sydney open on Monday
The clocks in force today are shown as follows: GMT applies in London until 28 March, while EDT applies in New York until 1 November. Nigeria does not change clocks, so each move shifts these local times by an hour and the page is rebuilt on the day it happens.
Funding and Withdrawals in Nigeria Are Part of the Arithmetic
Money moves mainly by bank transfer, and also through OPay, PalmPay, Moniepoint, card and USSD transfer. Each rail has its own timing and its own charges, and those charges come out of your result just like a trading loss does.
Check the app you actually use before you commit. A deposit that takes days to settle, or a withdrawal that arrives smaller than you expected, changes your real return even if your trades were fine.
Keep your trading money separate from rent, school fees and emergency savings. Money you may need this month is money you cannot afford to have in a live position.
| Rail | What it is | Who sets the limit and the fee |
|---|---|---|
| Bank transfer · used most | Bank transfer | Your bank and the broker |
| OPay | Payment service | The provider and the broker |
| PalmPay | Payment service | The provider and the broker |
| Moniepoint | Payment service | The provider and the broker |
| Card | Card payment | Your card issuer and the broker |
| USSD transfer | Bank channel | Your bank and the broker |
Limits and fees are set by the provider and the broker and change without notice, so they are not printed here. Fees are stated in two places - your provider's app and the broker's funding page - and the payout belongs on the account that paid in.
Before You Learn Strategies, Check Who You Are Dealing With
Regulation is not a detail you look up later. The Securities and Exchange Commission of Nigeria publishes a register of capital market operators at sec.gov.ng, and that register is the place to check what it covers. Read it yourself and draw your own conclusion about any firm you are considering.
Do not rely on a logo, a Telegram group or a review site to establish who is registered. Go to sec.gov.ng and search the register directly.
Learning forex trading properly takes time: understanding risk, keeping a record of every trade, and reviewing that record honestly. Anyone who tells you the learning part is optional is describing a different activity from trading.
| Figure | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Indicative USD/NGN | 1 327.30 | open.er-api.com, pulled 2026-09-28 |
| How often it moves | Every trading day | — |
| The rate your account uses | Your broker's own conversion | The broker's rate card |
| Symbol on this site | ₦ | — |
An indicative rate is for sizing a position in your head, not for settling one. Between this rate and the broker's conversion there is a margin, and it comes out of the trade.
A Demo Account Balance Is Not Evidence of What You Will Earn
Demo results look clean because nothing real is at stake. No spread widens on a thin session, no withdrawal delay forces a position closed early, and no transfer fee quietly reduces what you started with. Treat any screenshot of a demo balance as a practice record, not a forecast.
The failure mode is subtler than outright fraud. A reader tests a strategy on demo, sees a rising curve, then funds a live account with money they cannot afford to lose. The same strategy now behaves differently because real costs and real emotions are attached to every position.
If a firm leads with demo profits in its marketing, ask what else it is not showing. Check the firm against the SEC Nigeria register at sec.gov.ng before reading any performance claim. The register tells you who is authorised, not who is profitable, and that distinction matters.
| Document | What it proves |
|---|---|
| NIN slip or passport | Who you are |
| Selfie with the ID document | That the document is in your hands |
Brokers usually also ask for BVN, proof of address; requirements differ per firm. Look at the opening page of the broker you chose: that is the list that applies to you.
Leverage Changes the Size of Your Losses Before It Changes Your Income
Leverage is usually sold as a way to earn more from a small deposit. In practice it enlarges the position you control, which means a modest adverse move consumes a larger share of your account. The income side is uncertain; the loss side is mechanical.
The order of operations is wrong in most beginner accounts. Traders choose leverage first, then look for a trade to justify it. A sounder sequence is to decide the maximum loss you accept on a trade, then size the position so that loss matches, and only then confirm the leverage your broker permits.
Nigeria-based readers should also separate leverage from funding. The amount you can deposit through a bank transfer, OPay, PalmPay, Moniepoint, card or USSD transfer has nothing to do with the leverage on offer. Confirm both on the broker's own funding page rather than assuming one implies the other.
| Platform | What it is | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|
| MetaTrader 4 | The older standard; expert advisors and a large script ecosystem | MetaQuotes |
| MetaTrader 5 | The newer build; more order types and timeframes | MetaQuotes |
| cTrader | Depth of market and a different order model | Spotware |
| The broker's own app | Usually simpler, and tied to that one firm | The broker |
A platform is software, not a safeguard: the same terminal is offered by licensed and unlicensed firms alike. An app store listing says nothing about a licence; the register does.
Withdrawal Timing Turns a Paper Gain Into a Real One, or Does Not
A position can be closed in profit and still leave you waiting. Bank transfer processing, verification checks and the broker's own payout schedule all sit between the closing trade and money you can spend. Until funds land, the gain is only a number on a screen.
The failure mode is planning expenses against unrealised or unsettled money. Someone closes a trade on Friday, expects the cash by Monday, and commits to a payment. When the withdrawal clears later than assumed, the shortfall is not a trading loss but it hurts the same way.
Before funding, read the broker's withdrawal page and note the stated timelines and any conditions. Do not rely on forum posts or a support agent's verbal assurance. If the terms are vague, that vagueness is itself information about how the firm handles the part of the process that matters most.
Before you send money
- A fixed monthly return, promised in advance
- Ask which licence permits it, then look the firm up on the SEC Nigeria register of capital market operators.
- A deposit asked for in gift cards or vouchers
- Check the broker's own funding page: firms list bank, card and wallet rails, not vouchers.
- Someone offering to trade the account for you
- Managing money for a client is a separate permission. The register says whether a firm holds it.
- A withdrawal released only after a new payment
- Read the withdrawal terms you agreed to. A fee invented at payout time is not in them.
None of this is a judgement about any firm. Each line is a check you can run yourself, starting at sec.gov.ng.
Your First Year Is Better Spent Measuring Costs Than Chasing Returns
Most new traders track profit and loss and ignore everything that produced it. A more useful first-year habit is recording total costs: funding charges, conversion where it applies, withdrawal fees and any account charges. These are knowable in advance, unlike returns.
This flips the usual question. Instead of asking how much a strategy could earn, ask how much it must earn before you break even after costs. That threshold is a fact you can check, and it exposes strategies that only look viable because the costs were never counted.
Keep the records in one place and review them monthly. The point is not to predict income but to see clearly what trading actually costs you in naira. Readers who do this tend to size positions more carefully, because the drag is visible rather than theoretical.

A register says whether a firm holds a licence on the day you look, and nothing about how it treats clients. Search the legal entity from the broker's own footer, not the brand.
Can I calculate my potential forex profit before I trade?
Yes, but only as a scenario, not a forecast. A profit calculator lets you test how different position sizes and price moves interact with your account. It cannot tell you whether those price moves will happen, and it cannot remove the possibility of loss.
How do I check whether a forex firm is registered in Nigeria?
Go to sec.gov.ng and look at the SEC Nigeria register of capital market operators. Search the firm's name there and read what the register actually says, rather than trusting a badge on a website or a claim in a group chat.
Should I trade during the London and New York overlap?
That window, 13:00 to 18:00 WAT, is when both sessions are open, so there is usually more activity. More activity means more opportunity and also faster losses if your position size is too large. The session is not a strategy on its own.
